Jazz in Great Harwood

Lawrence (Bud) Freeman

Bud Freeman     March 1977

A true gentleman of jazz, always neatly dressed and looking more English than the English. It was difficult to imagine Bud Freeman mixing with the Eddie Condon gang, but it was in Chicago that he developed his tenor style.

In keeping with his image he was very respectful to the accompanying Cromwell Jazz Band and he played with imagination and drive for a very full session. Bud had also played with Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey.
