Jazz in Great Harwood

Kathy Stobart

Kathy Stobart     May 1978

The first lady of jazz in this country and a wonderful saxophone player. One assumes that she must have to be better than most men to have been so successful in a predominantly male environment.

She came twice to Harwood, once with Jazz Solos and then with her own group. I preferred the latter as we were able to hear all aspects of her musicianship.

An interview with Kathy Stobart from 1974 in the   jazzprofessional site.

Circular Breathing: The Cultural Politics of Jazz in Britain a book by George McKay containing this photograph of Kathy Stobart.
