Jazz in Great Harwood

Harry 'Sweets' Edison

Harry 'Sweets' Edison     June 1977

He was one of my favourite visitors to the club. He had recorded with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Tatum and Buddy Rich and he was the trumpeter that Frank Sinatra demanded for all his recordings.

One night he played a soft ballad at eleven o'clock to an audience who had been drinking all night . Such was the power of the man that you could have heard a pin drop. When he finished there were tears in his eyes.
